The mission of Residential Care Services, Inc…..Residential Care Services, Inc began in 1983 and has  been given  challenging opportunities  and tremendous responsibility to provided needed services to residents of Allegheny County.   This responsibility given to us has been met with outstanding service, unmatched passion, and  unprecedented pride that we, at Residential Care Services, will go the extra mile, give a second chance, and do “whatever it takes” to get the job done and help the individual succeed. 

In 1983, Residential Care Services, Inc began with one house in Squirrel Hill that provided services to six adolescent females. As time progressed and the needs of the residents of Allegheny County changed, so did Residential Care Services, Inc.   As Allegheny County has  flourished the Office of Behavioral Health has never been hesitant to look to Residential Care Services, Inc to add, amend, and grow programs that would support and serve the residents of Allegheny County.

 

From that one program with six bed in 1983 Residential Care Services, Inc with our mission firmly in our hearts and in our work has flourished for the past thirty one years into twelve programs including community rehabilitation residences, specialized housing programs, supported living in apartments, and a payee service.  Throughout our unprecedented growth our mission to and care for the people of Allegheny County  has never diminished.

The mission of Residential Care Services, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life…Residential Care services, Inc. has as a primary focus to enhance the quality of life of the people we serve.   We believe that when someone participates in a program that we offer, that he or she is entrusted to our care by family, friends, or others, and therefore upon completion of the program in which they participate, that their quality of life, their hope, their belief in themselves, and even their ability to navigate their  life with increased self respect, increased self reliance, and increased self esteem.

The mission of Residential Care Services, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life for persons in mental health recovery…in mental health recovery…people who have a mental health diagnosis never are “totally cured”.   The people we serve, at Residential Care Services, are in recovery from the mental health symptoms and living each one of their days knowing that some days will be more difficult than others, even so the staff of Residential Care Services understand that relapses may occur, struggles may arise, and difficulties present themselves.    We are committed to working with people who are in recovery from the symptoms of their mental health so that each person may live the life they want, contribute to the community as they choose, and to work, volunteer, or go to school as they choose.

The mission of Residential Care Services, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life for persons in mental health recovery by providing individualized community-based support…All the services Residential Services offers to those individuals we serve are community based, community focused, and community centered.   Although our focus is community based services, we understand that there are at times relapses and that people find themselves in need of hospitalization, at this time we do not automatically discharge a person who find themselves in a hospital or respite situation, rather the team works hard to ensure a smooth transition back into the community.

Residential Care Services, Inc is dedicated to providing our services with...

• Dignity for the individual:  Each person who is associated with Residential care is treated with dignity at all times.    We strive  to ensure that no person is judged on their past behaviors or difficulties with other living situations.       Each person is treated with the respect that member of the staff  would expect.
• Health for the individual:  One of the strengths of Residential Care Services is that we realize that we do not offer our services in a vacuum and that we are part of the larger picture for the people we serve.  We collaborate with primary care physicians, service coordinators, community treatment teams, hospitals, vocational programs, pharmacies, educational programs, and other service providers to ensure that necessary information is gathered so the residential team can develop a better relationship with the individual, yet also shares information, as appropriate with resident consent to ensure the best possible outcome for each individual.
• Wellness for the individual:  Each resident at Residential Care Services is encouraged to focus on wellness as part of their recovery plan.  This wellness includes both physical and mental health.    Many of the residential sites have exercise groups that the staff and residents participate in together.
•   Individualized, strength based approaches:   Each person who partners with Residential Care Services are treated as an individual.   We do not use cookie cutter approaches and attempt to change the person to fit the program.   A large part of our success is our ability to adapt the programming to meet the needs of the individual.
