Basic Skills that Referred Residents should Possess for Success

These are some basic skills that a resident should possess upon admission that housing staff will build upon for a successful stay.

Supportive Housing (Shadyside and Bellvue)

  • Demonstrate basic adult living skills, i.e. personal hygiene, cooking, bathing, laundry,
  • Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis and medication management
  • Willingness to learn and /or participate in life management skills/coping skills/recovery goals,
  • Knowledge of safety issues
  • Be ambulatory
  • Be medication self administering

Apartment CRR(Stanton, Melwood, and Penn)

  • Demonstrate basic adult living skills, i.e. personal hygiene, cooking, bathing, laundry,
  • Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis and medication management
  • Willingness to learn and /or participate in life management skills/coping skills/recovery goals,
  • Basic upkeep of apartment
  • Knowledge of safety issues
  • Be ambulatory
  • Understanding of medications and be self medicating with assistance

Group Homes(Millvale, Hasina, Maryland, and Balph)

  • Demonstrate basic adult living skills, i.e. personal hygiene, cooking, bathing, laundry,
  • Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis and medication management
  • Willingness to learn and /or participate in life management skills/coping skills/recovery goals,
  • Willingness to participate in CRR programming
  • Basic upkeep of room and common areas
  • Knowledge of safety issues
  • Be ambulatory
  • Willing to participate in community activity
  • Willingness to continue treatment with providers and attend appointments
  • Willingness to follow rules
  • Have basic understanding of their medications

MISA Group Home(South Aiken)

  • Demonstrate basic adult living skills, i.e. personal hygiene, cooking, bathing, laundry,
  • Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis and medication management
  • Willingness to learn and /or participate in life management skills/coping skills/recovery goals,
  • Willingness to participate in CRR programming
  • Basic upkeep of room and common areas
  • Knowledge of safety issues
  • Be ambulatory
  • Willing to participate in community activity
  • Willingness to continue treatment with providers and attend appointments
  • Willingness to follow rules
  • Have basic understanding of their medications
  • Willingness to participate in multiple 12 Steps group in the community

Specialized Residence(Wetzel)

  • Demonstrate basic adult living skills, i.e. personal hygiene, cooking, bathing, laundry,
  • Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis and medication management
  • Willingness to learn and /or participate in life management skills/coping skills/recovery goals,
  • Willingness to participate in CRR programming
  • Basic upkeep of room and common areas
  • Knowledge of safety issues
  • Be ambulatory
  • Willing to participate in community activity
  • Willingness to continue treatment with providers and attend ppointments
  • Willingness to follow rules
  • Have basic understanding of their medications
  • Willingness to learn and utilize DBT Skills
  • Willingness to work toward eliminating life threatening behaviors
