TEAMWORK

One of the most amazing things about RCS is the extraordinary amount of teamwork that can be witnessed daily – from the Administrative office to each of our community programs. The level of teamwork here is a characteristic that truly sets us apart from the competition.

Whether we’re joining together to plan an event for the consumers, meeting as a committee to improve our processes, or preparing our programs for a State licensing visit – TEAMWORK is the key to our success!

INITIATIVE

We are “solution-focused” here at RCS, Inc. That means we place a high value on those who not only identify problems, but also come up with possible solutions to those problems. Think the consumers may benefit from education on a particular topic? Do some research and do a presentation at the monthly resident meeting, or arrange for someone who may be an expert to do a presentation. Initiative is how things get accomplished and how positive changes occur...we are hopeful that you will take an active role in continuously improving the quality of our services.

LEADERSHIP

A myth abounds that one can only be a leader if they are in a “leadership position”, or in other words, a manager or supervisor.

We believe that everyone can be a leader by doing the following:
Listening and learning from others,
Energizing the organization,
Acting for the benefit of everyone,
Developing themselves,
Empowering others to lead, and
Recognizing achievement

You are a role model for the consumers and your co-workers and leading by example can have a significant impact on the people we serve, and the organization as a whole.

COMMUNICATION

The ability to communicate well with others is important to almost every aspect of our lives. At RCS, Inc., good communication goes a long way toward assuring that services are provided properly and expectations are met. We communicate with others in a variety of ways here – whether we’re having a conversation with a consumer, discussing an issue at staff meeting, handling a crisis, or writing a note in the staff communication log. Listening is one aspect of communication that is often overlooked, so we ask you to BE A GOOD LISTENER! Devote your full attention to the person who’s speaking to you, ask questions to get clarification, make good eye contact, and offer some indication that you understand the message that is being conveyed. It is very important that everyone on the team is on the same page. One last note – communication isn’t just verbal or written. Our body language and the way we dress can send strong messages about whether or not we’re listening at all!

DIVERSITY

We place a high value on diversity here, because it is only through our differences that we can grow to appreciate others for who they really are. These differences can be anything from race, to educational background, sexual orientation, religious practices, economic status, to position in the company hierarchy, and so many others! And it is not only among our employees where we place this value, but also among the people we serve. By getting to know the consumers, and understanding differences, we can tailor our services to better meet their needs.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
"DOING WHAT EVER IT TAKES"

Residential Care Services, Inc. has long been regarded as one of the best providers of housing and support services in Allegheny County. We believe that this reputation is well deserved, and was earned because of our philosophy of “Doing Whatever it Takes” to provide the necessary services to the consumers living in our programs. Often, this means taking on “difficult” consumers who have had limited success in similar programs. We believe that, through the support of our programs, everyone has the ability to grow and become more independent. And while the success rate is not 100%, we believe that everyone deserves a chance, and often several, at living in the most independent setting possible.

Our work has not gone unnoticed, and the agency continues growing in terms of the number of people we serve.

Because of the diverse nature of our programs – CRR – apartments and group homes, MISA programs, CTT, and Supportive Housing – it is important that we continuously monitor the quality of our work by constantly seeking ways to improve our services. Our belief is that no matter how good we are, we can always be better. We hope that you will take an active role in helping us continuously improve the work we do here at RCS, Inc.
